A backup battery that gets it right!

This isn't the first rechargeable backup battery I've used, but it's the first one that gets all the important things right. First of all it has a generous 2000mAh capacity which is enough to bring my iPhone 3Gs from dead to full power on a single recharge (albeit it is pretty much used up after that). It also delivers USB power at a full 1 amp instead of the slower 500 milliamp that others do, this let you charge finicky items like tablets or completely drained blackberries too. And it's universal USB too, it comes with a cable that charges itself over USB (standard A size to micro), which can be flipped around to the output plug to charge a multitude of micro USB devices (it also has a mini USB adapter included). So it has the open standards pretty much covered which is most Android and feature phones, but if you have an iPhone, Samsung, or other proprietary brand you'll still need your existing data/charge cable to use it. Fortunately I have more than I need from a history of iPods and iPhones, but even if you do need one off brand copies are pretty cheap on Amazon (e.g. Apple iPod / iPhone USB Data Cable Straight [Misc.])PROS:+ High capacity gives a full extra days worth of usage+ Universal design+ Includes cable for mini and micro USB devices (which doubles as it's own charge cable)+ Small and slight, slips into a pocket or a bag.CONS:- Need to bring your own proprietary USB cables for common devices from iPhone or Samsung.

Targus Backup Battery

Whether you have an iPhone, Android or early model cell phone, the one thing that irritates most users is battery life. For those with newer versions iPhones and other smartphones the benefit of the devices is to use the robust apps and other features which take your "phone" to a higher level. The Targus Backup Battery may be the solution you have been seeking.In addition to my regular charger (myTouch4G), I have a solar charger and it is an excellent complement. What makes the Targus Backup Battery a great device is you can use it for smartphones AND LAPTOPS! It merely uses your existing USB port and is very handy in making sure you are not stuck in a situation where you have no power. The unit is very sturdy and has USB Micro and Mini jacks. It is the type of item you will regularly put in your briefcase, bag, purse or however you carry items. The unit charges from your computer via USB port but so far, so good. A great investment for those unique times when you need power.The device comes with instructions as well as cables so all you have to do is plug it in. Hopefully you won't need it, but for those rare times when you may be in a jam, this unit is a solid investment.

I've been in need of something like this for awhile, so when the opportunity came, I jumped on getting the product. Unfortunately, I don't have a car charger for my iPhone (at least not yet), and am a fairly heavy iPhone user. Most of the time my phone lasts as long as I need it during the day before i have to charge it (having a car charger would help). Sometimes, however, i'm traveling, and having a backup batter like this would be heaven sent. I've now tried the device twice, and have found it to be quite effective. From an iPhone nearly dead (around 6% battery life) it successfully recharged my phone's batter to approximately 83%. I was a little disappointed that it didn't fully charge it, but it did charge it enough that I was satisfied. It did this in about 90 minutes. Since the Targus product just uses a standard USB cable, it's rather easy to charge anything with it that has a USB connection. It includes a cable for charging the device itself, and does so in about 2-3 hours. I just usually use the iPhone charger I have to charge it. It's been great the several times I've used it, and has really saved me in a bind (i.e. when I'm ON a call and the phone is dying).For those of you like me that travel and find yourselves in need of emergency power, this is great. It's not too big, and can easily be carried in a bag for easy access and charging. Compatible with many devices, so it's hard to go wrong with this product.
